A Bit About Me
Hello, I’m Leonard Giang, Founder (and Managing Director) of the BodhiChanda Foundation.
In 2020, I was deeply honored to receive the Five Upaska Precepts and the lineage name Tuệ Lưu from my spiritual teacher, Venerable Thích Pháp Hòa (Thầy), Abbot of Trúc Lâm Monastery in Edmonton, AB. Two years later, I formally received the Bodhisattva Precepts and the 14 Mindfulness Trainings of the Order of Interbeing.
In 2023, I was humbled to receive the Dharma name Bồ Đề Nguyện from Thầy, becoming his first student to carry the Bồ Đề name. These experiences have deeply shaped my approach to life and service, grounding my work in principles of openness, compassion, and ethical action.
My journey with BodhiChanda began with a deep sense of gratitude for the time I spent volunteering at my local temple. For many years, I had the privilege of contributing to a community that offered refuge, guidance, and support to so many. It was there that I learned the importance of service, compassion, and building true communities.
During my time at the temple, I often found myself striving to expand its capacity to serve beyond its immediate community. While the temple was—and continues to be—a source of profound inspiration and support, I realized that relying solely on existing systems or waiting for opportunities to arise wasn’t always enough to address the growing needs of society. This realization wasn’t a critique but a call to action. I saw an opportunity to complement the temple’s incredible work by creating something new—a platform that could empower other organizations to grow, thrive, and serve humanity more effectively.
My aim with Bodhi Chanda is to create opportunities for anyone to become a force for ethical change, leading a life of right livelihood, collaboration, and support for groups of compassionate beings to expand their impact. Together, we’re building true communities—where people of all faiths, ethnicities, and walks of life come together to take care of society and each other.
I’m deeply committed to this work, and I’m excited to partner with others who share this vision. If you’re part of an organization that’s making a difference, let’s connect and see how we can grow together.
